See below for more information
Type - Contracted
Day rate - £300
Ideally degree educated in a qualitative field, you'll be a logical thinker with training in data science techniques.
You'll have experience in statistical analysis and in applying machine learning for specific solutions and you'll have previously delivered statistical analysis projects.
With the ability to communicate technical concepts in a clearly and easy to understand manner, you'll also have good programming skills in either Python, R, or other widely used open source languages.
You will be working with electoral, demographic and campaigning datasets, investigating and understanding the impact of various campaigning techniques and local issues, such as hospital closures, on electoral results.
The data scientist will work with the wider Campaign Lab team to mentor and help lead a community of volunteer data scientists and their associated projects.
You will also have an interest in politics or campaigning, work well in a team and demonstrate experience of conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. You will be comfortable working hackathon style events and have experience of public speaking, such as showing off hackathon projects.
Campaign Lab is a small team with a big vision - a mission to develop a more firmly evidence-based approach to political campaigning in the UK. We run a monthly programme of data science hackathons in London, coordinating a community of volunteer data scientists to build our model, develop a new cuts visualisation platform and work with election candidates.
Our work is based off the simple realisation that, in British politics, there have been few contemporary analyses or studies undertaken to assess the impact or value of electoral campaigning methods in the UK. We think our work has the capacity to change the fortunes of election campaigns right across the country. If that's a mission that inspires you, and you have the skills we need, you could be the Data Scientist we're looking for.
Campaign Lab is a cooperative with a flat pay structure, successful candidates will become a member of the cooperative after three months with a full say over how the project is coordinated and developed.
